As a lover of science and a die hard believer in effective
communication, I’m studying aquatic ecology and science communication in
the M.S. Biology program at Ball State University. Specifically, I’m
looking at how the products we use everyday (medication, hand soap,
etc.) can affect algae, and how this topic can be used as a platform to
tease out what types of communication are most effective at engaging people. My
overall research interests include the ways humans affect the natural
environment, especially in aquatic systems, as well as how to
effectively communicate science to the public. I love writing, especially about interesting species and how they affect ecology!

Algal Ecologist.
I’m studying algal ecology in the M.S. Biology program at
Ball State. My research involves the study of freshwater harmful algal blooms
and how environmental variables influence their frequency and toxicity. Despite
a focus on algal ecology, my interests lie in pretty well all fields of aquatic
ecology and water quality. I really enjoy the great outdoors and working on ways
to mitigate human impacts on the environment (especially impacts on freshwater
ecosystems).
